Waiting List
Applications can be sent directly to clerk@oustonparishcouncil@gov.uk or for further information contact the Parish Clerk.
Please note that there is a waiting list for Allotments. As per allotment rule 2.3, only persons aged 18 years or more can apply for a plot. A Waiting List shall be kept by the Clerk to the Parish Council and vacant plots shall be allocated in strict rotation by date of application. Applicants who live in Ouston Parish will get priority. Only one plot per household is usually allowed, unless an existing Tenant applies for a vacant plot when no one else is on the Waiting List.
There is an increasing demand for allotment plots as it becomes more popular to grow your own fruit and vegetables.
When you are informed you are top of the waiting list then the Clerk will contact you to let you know there is a plot to be viewed and you will be asked to respond within 7 days. If no response, then it will be automatically assumed you do not want a plot and will be removed from the waiting list.
If you are offered a plot a potential tenant on the top of the waiting list can refuse an allotment that is available on 2 occasions. On the second occasion they will be placed to the bottom of the list. When they are top of the list again and they refuse the plot that is available, they will be removed off the waiting list for 6 months. The plots that have been viewed are not to be the same one each time.

DEFRA REGISTRATION NOW A LEGAL REQUIREMENT
Defra announces GB poultry register changes
All birdkeepers, regardless of the size of their flock, will be required to officially register their birds under new measures announced by Defra.
Defra consulted on the changes in March last year and has this week announced that the government, along with the devolved administrations, has agreed to make the following changes in England, Wales and Scotland:
- The threshold for mandatory registration will be reduced from 50 birds to 1, which means all poultry and captive bird keepers will be legally required to register their birds.
- Poultry keepers will be required to review their poultry register entry annually to ensure their details are up to date.
Key dates
The requirement for all poultry keepers to register will come into force in autumn 2024, with the requirement for an annual review to be introduced 12 months later.
In England and Wales, keepers are encouraged to register their birds ahead of the legal deadline on 1 October 2024.
How to register
Bird keepers will need to provide information, including their contact details, the location where birds are kept and details of the birds (species, number and what they are kept for).
- Keepers of fewer than 50 birds will need to visit: GOV.UK | Register as a keeper of less than 50 poultry or other captive birds – paper copies are available, if there’s none left in this noticeboard, please contact the Parish Clerk 07917 440 556. Return paper copy to the address on the form.
- Emailing customer.registration@apha.gov.uk to register online.
